 Tennessee’s motor vehicle death rate is at an alarming 21.3 deaths per 100,000 people, which is 42% higher than the national average, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.   Last year, nearly 1,200 Tennesseans lost their lives in motor vehicle accidents.

To combat this serious problem and create safer streets, Mayor Ron Littlefield and the City of Chattanooga are implementing a series of traffic enforcement cameras at high risk intersections and roadways to reduce the risk of collisions caused by red light running and speed violations, which are leading causes
of motor vehicle injuries and deaths.

    Objectives of the program include:

  • Save lives;
  • Decrease the number of accidents, injuries and fatalities caused by speeding and red light running;
  • Decrease the number of traffic violations throughout the City;
  • Supplement police enforcement to allow their focus to be on other crimes;
  • Increase public awareness of safe driving behavior throughout the community;
  • Improve the quality of life for all residents.
NOTICE: Cameras do not take photographs during the yellow phase of the signal. The photographs are used to mail a citation to the registered owner of the vehicle. If the registered owner is not the driver, he or she is given the opportunity to identify the driver so the citation can be re-issued.
